I am an Associate Professor of Public Policy at the Crawford School. I've spent my career advocating for change. Now I want to do that for us at the ANU.
The Auditor-General found Council approved Renew ANU's $250 million savings target without clear evidence it was needed or even achievable. That cannot happen again.
We are living with the consequences. Administrative systems aren't working. Academics are doing admin instead of research and teaching.
I read all 589 initial survey responses for the ANU Governance Project. It was clear how many colleagues already had ways to improve ANU governance. But that expertise is not being used.
If elected, I will:
- Be tenacious and unrelenting in demanding answers, accountability and transparency. I will not be a rubber stamp.
- Defend academic freedom, jobs, and good working conditions.
- Push Council to measure whether our administrative systems actually work, and act when they don't.
- Push to amend the ANU Act so staff and students have a permanent and majority role in University governance.
- Work to make car parking affordable.
I鈥檒l work constructively with the Executive when they get it right, and be frank and fearless when they do not.
