2025 From Campus to the World: Careers in Leadership & Diplomacy

You’re invited to a special in-person event featuring three accomplished ANU alumni who are currently serving as Ambassadors to Australia from Indonesia, Cambodia and Bhutan. In this candid conversation, they’ll share their journeys from student life at ANU to international diplomacy, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

Panellists:

  • His Excellency Dr Siswo Pramono – Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia
  • His Excellency Dr Cheunboran Chanborey – Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia
  • His Excellency Mr Sonam Tobgay – Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan

Hosted at HE Dr Siswo Pramono’s official residence, this intimate event offers a rare chance to hear how their time at ANU shaped their paths to diplomacy and what life is really like representing a nation on the world stage.

The panel will be moderated by Penny Williams PSM, an ANU and Toad Hall alum. Penny was Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia until January 2025 and previously served as Ambassador for Women and Girls and High Commissioner to Malaysia. She is now a Distinguished Advisor at the ANU National Security College and a Trustee of The Asia Foundation.

Expect thoughtful reflections, a few laughs, and a fresh perspective on how an ANU education can shape global careers, including memories from residence halls, early career pivots, and the unexpected side of diplomatic life.
