This community event is hosted in collaboration with the Menzies Library at the Australian National University and the ANU School of Culture, History & Language.

Geshe Lhakdor, the Director of the  in Dharamsala and is widely admired for his deep knowledge, warmth, and practical, often humorous teaching style.

Born in Tibet and he left Tibet in 1962 following the invasion by Communists China in 1959. He studied Buddhist philosophy at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics. He served for many years in the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama as Religious Assistant and Translator, accompanying His Holiness to more than thirty countries across the world before taking up his current role at LTWA.

Geshe Lhakdor has co-translated several of His Holiness the Dalai Lama鈥檚 major works, including The Way to Freedom, The Joy of Living and Dying in Peace, Awakening the Mind and Lightening the Heart, and Stages of Meditation.

He also serves as a Trustee of the Foundation for Universal Responsibility, Director of the Central Archive of His Holiness, a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Tibetan Classics in Montreal, and Honorary Professor at the University of British Columbia. He has additionally been conferred Honorary Professorship by the University of Delhi鈥檚 Department of Psychology.
